Employment is dead, long live work!
Contracts for life, fixed working time and a single place of work are all on the way out; to be replaced by the era of just-in-time labour – fluid, flexible, on demand and specialised. There is still just as much work around, but above all for temps, free-lance workers and interim managers.
Companies are cutting back :
Companies are reducing the wage bill by concentrating on their core activities and by reducing peripheral activities; sub-contracting is on the increase as is delocalisation and stand-alone technology.
A chosen few will benefit from this transformation :
International players, kings and queens of empathy and those able to use the latest information technology to deal with and solve problems.
Career cycles are getting shorter and shorter :
Professional life is a succession of cycles (just like a product), you just need to know how to locate yourself on the curves. You must look out for the start of a new curve before being on the downward slope of the previous one. When all the signals are green, this is the time to think about the next career step.
